It’s no secret that if you work in male-dominated industries like Oil & Gas, Tech or STEM-related professions, it can be challenging to find your path. Women have made significant headway over the last 50 years, now making up approximately 57% of the US labor force and are earning more graduate degrees than their male counterparts. However, only 26% of employees in computer and mathematical jobs are women, and female employees are still earning $.78 to the dollar compared to men. (See my thoughts on the pay gap and other issues affecting woman in the workplace here.) There are various reasons for the disparity and much work to be done to bridge the gap. Getting engaged and taking the following steps can potentially move the issue forward and help women thrive:
Ok, ladies. Can we just get real for a minute here? There are several “men’s” products that I have been using for the last couple of years that I absolutely love. I would’ve never heard about them or even tried them had I not been living with a man who uses them on the daily. So when I would run out of soap or a razor, I’d have to open up one of my husband’s, and lo and behold, I liked them so much better than my own! This post is all about the best men’s products that women can use as well. My favorite ones that I use on a daily/weekly basis are below:
Today I want to talk about goals, specifically goals for H2 (i.e. in business lingo, half two, or the second half of the year). I think it’s super important to think about what you envision for yourself in the year ahead / what you aspire towards and then get it down on paper. There’s something about writing it down (or typing it out) that makes it more real. There’s always hoopla around goal setting in the self-help / coaching (business or personal) world at the start of the year. However I think that it’s just as noteworthy to pause mid-year, reflect, and goal-set for the remaining months. Mind you, your goals might be the exact same as what you started with in January and that’s totally fine. However my bet is you might have a few tweaks to your list! 😉
For today’s post, I wanted to do a roundup of some of my current favorite things: podcasts, slides and dainty necklaces.
First things first: Podcasts. Recently, whenever I’ve needed some background noise, some inspiration or just some food for the creative / entrepreneurial soul, I’ve turned on a podcast. Some of you recently asked how I prefer to consume podcasts and for me, the most convenient way is though my phone. I click on my “podcasts” app and all of my podcasts are there. I’ll either subscribe to one that I’m loving or I’ll search for individual episodes that I listen to. Today I want to share with you my favorite podcasts that I’m listening to right now:
A couple of weeks ago, my girlfriend Jen and I went to Seattle for a long weekend. When we were brainstorming about which cities to visit, Seattle was top on our list! Neither of us had been to the Pacific Northwest prior to this trip, so we dived right in. [Side note: Jen and I studied abroad in Seville, Spain our junior year of college so needless to say, we are lifelong travel partners!]. Jen and I are both planners and as it so happens, neither of us had planned anything for this trip other than the working itinerary I had managed to put together on my flight. With thisguide book (which was great), we ended up planning the trip together once we got there.
